Will we be disappointed today?

This evening, England play their first football match since their shock loss to Iceland which led to their earlier than expected exit from Euro 2016.

It was a real shock that England lost to Iceland and there was a real sense of disappointment and unbelief at the time.

If you are an England fan, how do you think you feel today at 7pm when it is all over?

The game against Slovakia won’t be easy, but I would expect England to win. We have a new manager and we do have better (theoretically anyway) players, so what is there to worry about?

I hope that England win, but if they don’t it really isn’t the end of the world.

The Bible describes God as our foundation/a rock/a safe place to stand.

God is the one person in the universe who we can depend on. If we build our life on us only be satisfied if a team win, then at some point everything is going to come crashing down.

I can watch and even enjoy (theoretically anyway) England play football, but my happiness and fulfillment in life isn’t dependent on their performance.

I hope I am celebrating an England win tonight, but most of all I can be grateful that God is always victorious and that he never lets me down. Following and relying on him, now that is something worth celebrating!

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Regional Minister for the Eastern Baptist Association in the UK (the views expressed in this blog are my own) and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.
