Waiting for an Update?

Windows is updating‘Configuring Windows updates, Don’t turn off your computer’ is not a message that you want to see when you are in a rush and you need to take your laptop with you.

I was on my way out to take my daughter to school and when I went to shut down my laptop I could see it was going to install updates. I knew that I didn’t have time for it to do this, so I tried to find a way of bypassing it. After a minute or two I couldn’t find any way of quickly shutting down and I didn’t have time to research how to do it, if it is even possible? So I hit the shutdown option and took my daughter to school before returning for my computer.

The laptop needed an update, but the update came at the an inconvenient time.

Some computer updates can only be installed when the computer is not in use and this is why the installation takes place during a restart.

I believe God wants to give us updates for life and sometimes this requires us to stop.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. (Psalm 23.1-3)

The Psalm is using a metaphor of a shepherd and their sheep. The shepherd leads the sheep to a place where they can stop and rest for their own well-being and God wants to do the same for us.

I am ill at the moment :(.

I have had flu for a few days but because I am rarely ill, I tried keep going, thinking that it would go away if I persevered enough. I soldiered on through Wednesday, Thursday and part of Friday and then I came home and went to sleep.

I am feeling a lot better now than I was before I stopped but I can’t talk without coughing and so I am not at church this morning :(.

I don’t believe that God has given me the flu but I do believe that he is using the circumstances to remind me to stop. I may not be at church this morning, but I can still connect with God.

Are you in need of an update from God? He longs to bring refreshment and a fresh perspective on life but receiving these things require us to stop to receive them fully.

Are you in need of an update?

About honestaboutmyfaith

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Regional Minister for the Eastern Baptist Association in the UK (the views expressed in this blog are my own) and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.
