The One About Blue Flashing Lights

blue flashing lightI heard the siren before spotting the blue flashing lights behind me, the cars on the road all began to pull to the side and the ambulance sped past. In that moment, the ambulance crew were doing something more urgent than any of the rest of us. They were speeding to help someone and time was of the essence. All the rest of us could do was get out of their way.

As I continued on my way home I began to think about how a relationship with God can be like a series of repetitive calls to the emergency services.

With God, do we call for help only when we need him or do we want a more meaningful relationship with him?

God will do the whole I’ll be there in an emergency thing, but he wants us to know him in a deeper way.

After all, God is for life, not just for emergencies, right?

About honestaboutmyfaith

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Regional Minister for the Eastern Baptist Association in the UK (the views expressed in this blog are my own) and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.
