I heard the siren before spotting the blue flashing lights behind me, the cars on the road all began to pull to the side and the ambulance sped past. In that moment, the ambulance crew were doing something more urgent than any of the rest of us. They were speeding to help someone and time was of the essence. All the rest of us could do was get out of their way.
As I continued on my way home I began to think about how a relationship with God can be like a series of repetitive calls to the emergency services.
With God, do we call for help only when we need him or do we want a more meaningful relationship with him?
God will do the whole I’ll be there in an emergency thing, but he wants us to know him in a deeper way.
After all, God is for life, not just for emergencies, right?
