The not so great escape

lambA few months ago I came across a lamb while I was out on a walk. As I approached it, it ran towards the nearby fence and squirmed underneath and back into the field with all of the other sheep.

This happy little lamb had found freedom but then it decided that the outside world was too scary a place to be (especially with me approaching!)

Fear can be incredibly destructive. We all have so much potential and there is so much that we can accomplish but sometimes we are just too afraid to try.

You see, God doesn’t want us to be afraid but he does want us to find freedom and fulfilment in life.

Following Jesus is about embarking on an amazing journey of faith. Jesus didn’t promise that it would be easy or plain sailing but he does call us to take up our cross and to follow him.

Reading what Jesus said and taught and obeying it takes a huge amount of courage and faith. So, will we follow Jesus into the freedom and quality of life that he promises or will we let fear control us?

You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom. (Galatians 5.7-8)

Whenever we are afraid, we need to remember that God is with us and that he is our shepherd leading us through life. May we allow him to lead us forwards into freedom!

About honestaboutmyfaith

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Regional Minister for the Eastern Baptist Association in the UK (the views expressed in this blog are my own) and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.
