This is a poster from the men’s toilets in the Colchester Odeon cinema (I never thought that would be an opening line for a blog post!)
I need to make it clear that I don’t normally take photographs in public toilets but this poster just seemed like it was in the wrong place. It has such an important message, but to put it in a place where women can’t see it seems to be fairly bizarre.
As I thought about the poster, I was wondering if it had something helpful to teach churches about how we communicate.
We have an amazing message of hope and life to share, but I wonder are we communicating it in the wrong places? We might be good sharing ‘the good news’ in church to the people who already know it, but how about everyone else?
I guess that we may feel awkward about going up to people and explaining our beliefs. One of the ways that can make this easier is to talk about our experience, after all isn’t that what friends do, we share what we are thinking and doing together.
What is God doing in your life today?
Could you tell someone about it?
Addition to original blog post
Lots have people have been in touch to point out that men can have breast cancer as well. That hadn’t occurred to me although a poster that said ‘men can get breast cancer too’ as well might be more appropriate!
I hear what you are saying but apparently, though rare, men can get breast cancer and because its the last thing they expect it can be quite serious. Might be wrong. Andrew +
