We’ve not been this way before

we've not been this way beforeI was out for a walk recently with my parents and as we tried to navigate from a play area to a nearby pond (yes, there was geocaching involved!) someone said ‘we’ve not been this way before’.

This reminded of the time when the Jews were about to enter the land of Canaan and the instruction came to follow the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Covenant because the people had not been that way before (Joshua 3).

Sometimes we know where we are headed, but the actual route or process to get there isn’t always clear (any geocachers will know exactly what I am talking about!)

The answer for the Jews was to follow the Ark which contained the presence of God or to put it another way, the answer  is to follow God.

As we walked down the path in the picture, we knew that we were headed the right way but the path wasn’t marked on our gps unit and so we we weren’t entirely sure where the path would end up. Life can sometimes feel like this when we use our best judgement to head in a direction that feels right but for Christians there should be something more.

We follow God who is with us. That is we say we follow him, but will we really follow him as we travel through areas of life that we have not been through before?

About honestaboutmyfaith

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Regional Minister for the Eastern Baptist Association in the UK (the views expressed in this blog are my own) and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.
