A few times in the past few weeks, someone has phoned the church office and asked for Rev Green. They have all been sales people who want us to speak to us about phone or electricity provision and their out of date list is telling them that they need to speak to Paul Green who was the minister here before me.
I take great delight in telling them that Rev Green hasn’t worked here for 5 years at which point they go on to try to sell me something. Why do they think I am going to want to take out a contract with a company that is working with 5 year old information? It doesn’t exactly inspire confidence!
Someone from the company who supplies our home telephone called me at home yesterday but they had to hang up because the line was so bad. I could hear them fine, but apparently they could only hear me intermittently. This didn’t exactly inspire confidence either.
We rely on phones so much to communicate but the line needs to be good. I am so thankful that we have a clear line to God and that we can talk with him anytime.
We can talk with him anytime but do we choose to?
We are running a new project at Orchard Baptist Church this week and it has gone well apart from one of the days earlier this week which was quite stressful. As a team it later dawned on us that we hadn’t prayed that day before we started. Things had started to go wrong when someone essential didn’t turn up and as we rushed around trying to fill the gap we forgot God in our busyness. The whole time was frantic and the whole time God was there waiting to be invited to make a difference.
Perhaps God is asking you if you want to talk with him?
Perhaps he wants to talk with you about what is keeping you going in life. (Utilities we pay for help us in life eg fuel, communication etc).
Will we speak with God?
I think I would be tempted to say that Rev Green is in the ballroom with the candlestick.
