Why I was confused as I watched the Voice last night

the voice 2015I found watching ‘the Voice’ last night really confusing. One of the contestants I wouldn’t have picked had a choice of coaches wanting them on their team and others who I thought were excellent had no one turn around.

Here’s what I find strange, the programme is supposed to be about giving people who have a good singing voice a chance to sing and be successful. If you haven’t seen it, basically the contestants sing while the coaches backs are turned to them. If a coach wants to offer that person a spot on their team based on what they hear then they press their button to turn their chair around.

One of the common excuses given in this series for not turning around is ‘I wouldn’t know what to do with your voice’. I think I understand what the coaches mean but it is a shame if someone has a talent that is ignored because it is not quite the right type of music or style for the coach.

I was having a think about this I realized that effectively God has turned around for us. He has invited us to be on his team and it’s all about his grace. We can’t reach the standard required to be on his team but God invites me anyway :). God loves the whole world and he offers all of us the opportunity to follow him.

We are usually gutted when we are not chosen for something that we really want but in contrast to this we all have the ultimate offer of something we don’t deserve. The creator of the universe, the almighty God has reached out to the whole world through his son Jesus so that we can choose to follow him!

Does the devil is shout at God telling him not to pick us? ‘You’ll regret it’, ‘they will let you down’, ‘they’re not good enough’ etc? If he does, God ignores him and still offers us a spot on his team.

In the Voice, sometimes the contestant have a choice of coaches to pick from and the same is true for us. The contestants have to weigh up which coach will be the best for them and we have the same choice as we consider if we want God or some philosophy or belief system to lead us and to shape our life.

I’m so grateful that God allowed me to choose to follow him. Since following him, he has completely changed my life.

God will never say ‘I was going to offer you a spot on my team but I don’t know what I would do with you’. He makes allowances for us by his grace, even though we may let him down and even if we are not good enough he still welcomes us.

God offers all of us the chance to follow him. How will we respond?
