The one where I fell over

falling overI really thought that I was going to be on my way to hospital. I had slipped and fallen heavily on my knee and it was several minutes before I could put any weight on it.

We have laminate flooring and the soles of my shoes have lost more of their grip than I had realized and these two things are not a good combination.

I felt safe and secure as I walked across the floor but then I fell and then I was reminded of how fragile life can be.

12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure (1 Corinthians 10).

We all face temptations and I guess that the more familiar and normal that something becomes the more we are likely to give in to it. When we feel like we are standing strong and firm in our faith, when we are pleased with all that we are achieving for God then we need to be careful that we don’t fall or slip into temptation. The simple point is that we need to trust in God and not in ourselves. When we live for God it results in pressures and opposition, if we think we can stand firm against these things in our own strength then we are likely to fall.

Will we ask God to show us the things around us that are not in line with his will so that we can turn our back on them? If I had been focused on the floor rather than rushing I probably wouldn’t have fallen. If we focus on God and his way of living then we will avoid temptation and all the pain and aggravation that giving into it can lead to.

Here’s hoping that we don’t fall.

About honestaboutmyfaith

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Regional Minister for the Eastern Baptist Association in the UK (the views expressed in this blog are my own) and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.
