I was blown away by the viral post that broke the internet

oh no I broke the internetIs it just me or are headlines on the internet getting more and more ridiculous?

A title that claims that the something has gone viral is actually written before it is even published.

Claims of breaking the internet clearly aren’t true unless it is broken and we haven’t noticed yet!

Do we need to start accessing the internet chained to the ground to ensure we aren’t blown away?

chills from watching claimI’ve never had chills, tingles or shivers when browsing the internet apart from when I had flu. It’s weird because how can anyone know how someone else will react? Lots of my friends have shared the ‘Pentatonix Singing ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ is So Hauntingly Beautiful, it Will Leave You With Chills’ video. There is no doubt they are amazingly talented but I turned it off after 20 or 30 seconds, it is just not my sort of thing.

We live in a world of hype, spin and exaggeration and I don’t like it. I wish we could get back to simplicity and truth instead of sensationalism.

Jesus talked about not swearing oaths to prove you mean or will do something, instead he said,  ‘just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t. (Matthew 5.33-37). If we are truthful then our yes or no will be enough.

Are we people of integrity or do we like to exaggerate to make ourselves look good or to get what we want? I hope that we can choose to be truthful in all that we do.

kid born in shed saves world shockThis newspaper headline is a good example of telling something just as it is. It is the perfect description of Jesus’ birth except for the fact that I don’t think there was necessarily a shed involved. I first saw the wording a few years ago in a Christmas card produced by the Good Book Company and it has stayed with me ever since.

Jesus may just have appeared to be a child born in extreme poverty but he came into the world to save us and that is good news worth telling people about.

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Baptist Minister and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.

  1. Short and sweet but made me shout ‘Amen’! at the screen. I felt the same about that song too, but I felt so uncool if I had actually stated it. OK, maybe stating it would have been too honest, but it is a further indication of our reticence to say, in love, “Actually, I didn’t really like what you shared, and don’t think it deserves the adolation you are giving it.” Maybe offline 🙂
