A light in the darkness

john 1.5 cevDo you ever feel discouraged when you watch the news or when you hear of a friend going through a hard time? We live in a world that sometimes feels very dark and depressing.

These words were written about Jesus:

His life gave light to everyone. The light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out. (John 1.4-5)

Jesus is the light of the world and he longs for us to receive life and hope from him.

When we look at the light instead of the darkness we can find hope instead of despair

What we focus on the most will dominate our thoughts. Sometimes it feels like we are surrounded with bad news and sadness. When the darkness feels like it is overwhelming, we can pray for the light and hope of Jesus to flood our lives and experience.

When you look at the light the world seems darker

The picture at the top of the page was taken on a lovely sunny day in some woods. The camera focused on the sun and so everything else became dark. The more we focus on the purity and holiness of God, the darker the world will seem. When we notice the darkness, we must resist the temptation to make it our focus. Lets pray that Gods light would shine more and more in the darkness.

The light is more powerful than the darkness

The darkness can feel overwhelming but I pray that we will all see clearly the light of Jesus today and that his light would shine in us and through us.

The light shines the brightest in the darkest places

About honestaboutmyfaith

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’m married to a very patient wife. We have 4 children, 2 rabbits, a terrapin (and not a lot of peace and quiet!). I’m a Regional Minister for the Eastern Baptist Association in the UK (the views expressed in this blog are my own) and I am especially interested in making Church accessible to people who have no church background and also in how we disciple people in order to equip them to live out their faith in the 21st Century.
