Have you ever felt fragile and upset and apologised for it? There seems to be an expectation amongst some people that we should all be strong and able to cope but is this the way it should be? The Bible says:
We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. (2 Corinthians 4.7-9).
The Bible compares us with fragile jars of clay. If you drop a plate or cup it will smash, it is only strong until it is put under pressure. Your creator and designer says that it is normal to feel fragile.
It should also be normal for us to cope if we are relying on God. The treasure mentioned is the presence of God within us. If we rely on God then we can cope and continue even when we are under pressure. God’s presence gives strength. We are fragile unless we are full of God.
So if you feel fragile and under pressure, I hope you will be encouraged that it is normal to struggle when we are going through hard times. I hope that you will be encouraged that there is also a way forward if we stop trying to cope alone and call on God instead. May we eagerly ask God to fill us afresh with the presence of his Holy Spirit.
My prayer is that God would give us strength, inspiration and guidance as we continue to live with any pressures we are facing.
If you have any examples of ways that God has been your strength in hard times then I would love to hear from you.
